White House officials discussed environmental policy in a meeting Monday with top executives in the energy industry, including the oil, gas and mining sectors, attendees told CNBC.
The business leaders expressed interest in making investments in carbon-capture technologies, and most signaled support for market-based carbon pricing, attendees said.
The executives also generally applauded the Biden administration’s decision to rejoin the Paris Climate Agreement, from which the U.S. had withdrawn under former President Donald Trump.
The guest list for the Monday evening meeting included top executives from BP, Chevron, Exxon and BHP, among others, attendees said. The White House declined to provide a full list of invitees, and would not say which officials would be representing the Biden administration.
