U.S. Stock Futures Poised to Open Slightly Higher Monday

Here’s what you need to know to navigate the markets today.

• U.S. stocks are set to open Monday slightly higher. On Sunday night, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures gained 89 points, or 0.25%, while the S&P 500 futures gained 0.19% and Nasdaq Composite futures gained 0.33%. Another 160 S&P 500 companies report earnings this week, including: Clorox , McKesson , and Simon Property Group on Monday; Activision Blizzard , ConocoPhillips , Eaton, Ferrari, Pfizer and T-Mobile US on Tuesday; Booking Holdings , CVS Health , Etsy , Marriott International , and Qualcomm on Wednesday; Airbnb , Expedia Group , Kellogg, Moderna, Square, ViacomCBS and Uber Technologies on Thursday; and Dominion Energy and DraftKings on Friday. This week’s notable economic events include: On Monday, The Census Bureau reports construction spending data for September. The Institute for Supply Management releases its Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index for October on Monday and the Services Purchasing Managers Index on Wednesday. Also on Wednesday, the Federal Open Market Committee concludes its October monetary-policy meeting and is widely expected to announce it will begin tapering its $120 billion in monthly asset purchases. On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics will report October jobs numbers and the unemployment rate.
