Chinese chipmaker Bitmain released a new liquid cooling mining rig that the company says is ‘the best power efficiency among all of the firm’s models.’
Bitmain Paving Way for Power-Efficient Mining
Bitmain, a Beijing-based firm, is one of the world’s leading bitcoin mining hardware and related services. Reportedly, the firm recently released a new liquid cooling mining rig that boasts the ‘best power efficiency among all of the firm’s mining rig models.’
Bitmain’s website revealed that the newly released mining rig is called ‘Antminer S19 XP Hyd’ and has a 255 terahashes per second (TH/s) of computing power and 20.8 joules per terahash (J/T) of power efficiency when running on 5,304 watts.
The cooling rigs cost just under $20,000 per unit and are expected to ship in the first quarter of 2023. Additionally, this new model’s energy efficiency narrowly beats Bitmain’s last best rig – the Antminer S19 XP.
These hydro cooling rigs are designed to be used only in Bitmain’s containers. The machine uses the liquid cooling method, which uses a liquid, such as a coolant going through pipes, to release heat from the machine.
In January, Bitmain announced the Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd, its first rig to come with liquid cooling, which delivered up to 198 TH/s at 27.5 J/T. That said, the firm recently announced a new container that fits 210 mining machines and consumes 1 megawatt of power.
Boosting Sustainable Mining
Bitmain has been focused on sustainable bitcoin mining and has taken up initiatives in the direction of late.
The firm recently boosted its sustainable mining initiative by forming a joint venture with a United States-based sustainable bitcoin miner, Merkle Standard.
As part of the joint venture, Bitmain would develop up to 500 MW of clean digital mining infrastructure at Merkle Standard’s hydro-powered facilities in Eastern Washington.
Furthermore, today itself, the Beijing-based chipmaker has secured a substantial holding in one of America’s largest crypto-mining centers with a partnership with Allrise Capital. The move could further aid Bitmain’s market growth in the US.
That said, the bitcoin mining metrics have noted exciting changes over the last few months, as highlighted by FXempire in a previous article. Bitcoin hashrate increased by more than 15% in a week as processing power saw a steady rise.
