The Financial Post has five finalists in the seventh annual Best in Business awards, which recognize excellence in business reporting and are handed out annually by the Canadian chapter of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW).
Nine Post journalists are recognized for their work during 2020 in five categories ranging from newsletters to podcasting to investigative reporting.
“In a challenging pandemic year, the Financial Post’s journalists and editors produced outstanding work across the board,” Financial Post managing editor Joe Hood said. “These awards are a testament to the range, dedication and talent of the FP team.”
In the newsletter category, Yadullah Hussain and Pamela Heaven are finalists for their work on the Post’s signature morning missive, Posthaste, which sets the day’s agenda with the economic and market news.
Jake Edmiston,Joe O’Connor, Kevin Carmichael and Terence Corcoran are finalists in the breaking news category for a package of stories and columns responding to Maple Leaf Foods’ CEO Michael McCain’s public rebuke of the Trump administration, a rare outspoken moment for a Canadian chief executive.

Victor Ferreira is a finalist in the personal finance category for an early look at the real people behind the boom in retail stock trading during the pandemic.
James McLeod is a finalist in the investigative category for a look at the data collection policies of coffee giant Tim Hortons.
Finally, in the podcast category, Down To Business host Gabriel Friedman is a finalist for the episode, “No science behind lobster dispute,” which explored the conflict over a Miq’maq fishery in Nova Scotia that had turned violent.
The SABEW Canada finalists were announced Wednesday, with the organization saying it is unlikely the awards ceremony will be held in person this year. The Financial Post won three silvers at last year’s awards, which were also held virtually.
